De Ferranti’s strikes gold at Copacabana Palace

01 July 2009 GMT 10:50 (Rio de Janeiro)

When designer Graham Viney was looking for something special for the new lounge bar at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Copacabana Palace, it was De Ferranti’s Alchemy Collection that provided the solution.

Bar do Copa features a golden walkway that glistens under a sky of fibre optic lights.

De Ferranti’s hammered brass briquettes were specified for the floorcovering and were liked so much by Viney that the entire concept of the lounge was designed around it. This included a bar made of gold Murano glass and illuminated multicoloured columns.

The briquettes come in bronze, copper, German silver and the brass that gives such a golden glow in this lounge bar. Each of the four metals has a unique hand-patinated finish and the tiles can be arranged to create a variety of geometric patterns.
