Marriott fly high with Gaskell Mackay

10 July 2009 GMT 16:52 (London)

Gaskell Mackay has provided Gatwick airport’s Marriott Courtyard Hotel.

The Hartlepool-based carpet specialist fitted a bespoke Axminster in line with an initial design concept of bringing the outside in. In association with Kew Green Hotels, the hotel owner, and interior designers Dexter Moren Associates (DMA), the aim was to extend the feel of the hotel’s internal courtyard to the reception area.

Gaskell’s large abstract floral pattern carpet provides the main focus of the lobby area through four separate inset rug effect zones. This design was carried through to the rest of the hotel in lighter more neutral tones.

Gaskell Mackay’s Sales Director Stephen Donlan says: “We worked closely with the client and their interior designers along with Marriott’s head office for two years, developing the initial concept, revising the designs and providing carpet samples up to the final stage.”

The theme was rolled out into other areas of the hotel including the restaurant, meeting rooms, corridors and guestrooms. The installation used around 8,000m2 of quality 7 row Axminster and a custom 1050gm2 weight printed tufted quality in the bedrooms.
