Philips brings Ultimate HD viewing experience to hotels

Travellers now expect the same high quality when they stay in a hotel as they are able to access at home. To match this expectation, Philips is to launch Ultimate HD, an end-to-end platform on which hospitality businesses can build an HDTV system to meet their needs.

Built around a range of four HDTV sets, spanning screen sizes from 26-inch (66cm) through to 42-inch (106cm), Ultimate HD provides hotel guests with a vivid, lifelike widescreen viewing experience. All four sets combine Pixel Plus HD, Philips’ proprietary suite of picture enhancement technologies, with Dolby® Digital 5.1 surround sound and multichannel audio for language options. The sets also feature integrated DVB-T, DVB-C and MPEG-4 digital decoders. This removes the need for additional HDTV set-top boxes, enabling quick and easy installation by the hospitality customer and requiring less end-to-end investment.

Amongst the many end-user insight-driven innovations applied within Ultimate HD is Theme TV. This simplified user interface for hotel entertainment systems helps guests easily navigate through the multiple channels available in modern hotels. Using national flags and definable themes, channels can be identified and grouped according to language, nationality or topic without need for an interactive management system.

For film studios and other entertainment producers to be able to offer high quality, high definition premium entertainment to the hospitality industry, a hotel-based HDTV system has to satisfy very strict security requirements. Philips has worked closely with content providers to ensure that Ultimate HD satisfies those requirements, employing a highly robust security package consisting of the VSecure content protection and VTrack content identification solutions.
 
The Philips Ultimate HD HDTV system for hotels will be launched in October in Europe.
