Swisscom first to offer Smartphone WiFi service in hotels
24 November 2009 GMT 09:44
As a network operator, Swisscom has reported a dramatic rise in bandwidth consumed through WiFi mobile phones with travellers increasingly depending on their Smartphones rather than laptops to communicate and listen to music.
The new Swisscom enabled Smartphone WiFi service responds to the needs of the traveller. Fully integrated with the hotel’s property management system (PMS), it enables guests to connect seamlessly and hoteliers to promote their own services through their guests’ preferred devices.
The new service allows users to connect to the Internet in only three clicks. Once logged on, the guest can stay connected for 24 hours at a time with the wireless PMS integration enabling a personalised user interface, seamless data processing, unlimited uploads and downloads at WiFi broadband speed, and invoicing through the guest’s room bill.
Swisscom’s new Smartphone WiFi service is currently available in more than 1,100 partner locations and is ready for rollout across Europe.
“The rise of the Smartphone reconfirms the long-term value of our wireless hotel technology”, comments Leo Brand, CEO of Swisscom Hospitality Services. “In addition to providing connectivity to the guest, we can assist hotels in promoting their own services through customised applications. We are actively working with hotel chains on specific applications as well as on new, competitive functionalities for both hoteliers and guests to leverage the numerous possibilities of employing Smartphones in the hotel space.”
