Smith Caradoc-Hodgkins and Cando design Sanctum Soho hotel

(London) - Pictured here is our first glimpse of Sanctum Soho London. Developed by club owner and restaurateur Mark Fuller, the 30-guestroom boutique property is due to open on 21 March 2009 after an investment of just under £10 million.
Architects Smith Caradoc-Hodgkins and interior designer Lesley Purcell of Cando have transformed two Victorian townhouses in Warwick Street Soho into the hotel. Features include an underground cinema, 60 cover restaurant on the ground floor, and a private rooftop garden, complete with alfresco Jacuzzi.
The hotel’s bedrooms and ‘crashpads’ are described as “naughty spaces that tease with the possibility of being hired by the hour… Think rich veneer and dark velvet in an Art Deco setting, or mirrored columns against glass beaded wallpaper and liquid silver tiles; luscious black and purple silks with gold lustre furnishings or a rococo fantasy of satin and pale pinks.”
In keeping with the Soho location, 24-hour room service extends to “a sexy underwear and swimwear menu for him and her” and a “box of tricks for the adventurous”.
Reports that Iron Maiden are behind the hotel have proved ill-founded, although the group’s co-manager, Andy Taylor is involved as investor. Nevertheless the rooftop garden and resident-only bars are likely to witness rock n’roll antics aplenty given Fuller’s track record.
