The Doyle Collection unveils third London hotel
05 June 2009 GMT 11:56 (London)
The Bloomsbury Hotel has been unveiled following a multi-million pound investment from The Doyle Collection.
Originally designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens as the headquarters for the YWCA, the listed building is now home to 153 guestrooms, a library restored to its original glory, a basement restaurant, and a range of modern and traditional meeting and function spaces.
Denis Looby of Dublin-based Sheehan & Barry Architects is responsible for the hotel’s new interiors having designed the entire Doyle Collection portfolio.
Original features have been combined with traditional and modern furniture supplied by George Smith, B&B Italia, Porta Romana and PTT. Bespoke handmade rugs from the Rug Company soften the original herringbone timber floor.
Guestrooms and suites feature casegoods by PTT and fabrics by Fox Linton and Osborne & Little, with splashes of colour in the cushions, lamps and armchairs. Suites boast fabrics by GP&J Baker and Andrew Muirhead Leather, alongside mohair covered armchairs and footstools from George Smith, and lamps by Porta Romana.
The hotel also features a wood-panelled Landseer Bar, and the Landseer British Kitchen, an intimate restaurant with low lighting and Mother of Pearl mosaic. Custom-made furniture includes a mixture of round and square tables from Quinton Cavendish and leather chairs from B&B Italia.
The Bloomsbury Hotel is a member of The Doyle Collection, a new hotel group that comprises eleven hotels in six cities around the world.
