WATG Unveils Designs for Accor Pullman Hotel and Convention Centre in Lavasa, India
08 June 2009 GMT 17:23 (Lavasa)
WATG has unveiled the designs for Accor Pullman Hotel and an adjacent convention centre in Pune, India.
The firm was commissioned to create the architecture and interior design for the 256-room five-star hotel, and the interior design for the convention centre on a site of natural beauty. Accor Pullman is scheduled to open mid 2010.
The design is contemporary, clean and modern and relates to the region and its changing climatic conditions. A 16-meter-high lobby creates a focal point for the hotel; the introduction of sculpted screens based on local patterns provides shading and cooling while capturing the essence of the locale. The interior of the hotel fuses modern lines with the traditional patterns, materials and colours of India.
For the convention centre, WATG complements the use of the stone and timber used in the architecture by combining it with modern finishes and creating open, innovative spaces. The reception area encourages interaction and has been designed to provide flexibility in the arrangement and function. The bold use of graphics and colour as well as a strong versatile lighting scheme provide a dramatic backdrop for any type of event.
