Mamilla Hotel opens in Jerusalem
23 July 2009 GMT 12:38 (Jerusalem)
A new hotel designed by architect Moshe Safdie and designer Piero Lissoni has opened in the centre of Jerusalem.
Described as “the first luxury lifestyle hotel in Jerusalem and Israel,” the Mamilla offers views of the Old City walls, the Tower of David and Jaffa Gate.
It features 194 exceptionally appointed guest rooms, multiple restaurants and bar venues offering a range of local and international cuisine, a chic ‘Mirror’ bar, a terrazzo-style Rooftop brasserie with uninterrupted views of the Old City, a holistic well-being spa and gym, as well as various events and banqueting spaces.
"The Mamilla Hotel is a quintessentially urban place," says architect Moshe Safdie. “It is a combination of historic buildings and contemporary architecture rising out of the network of alleys which connect the walled and the new cities of Jerusalem. It combines the pattern of the old with cutting edge modernity. It enjoys great views of the Old City and is designed to be in the centre of action. The Rooftop outdoor venue is bound to become one of Jerusalem's favorite meeting places”.
The hotel is part of Alrov Luxury Hotels Holding – the hotel and hospitality subsidiary of Tel-Aviv-based real estate company Alrov, founded in 1978 by Chairman Alfred Akirov and overseen by Managing Director Georgi Akirov. In addition to the Mamilla Hotel, Alrov Luxury Hotels owns the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem and is currently developing two key properties in unique heritage buildings in Europe: the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam and the Café Royal Hotel in London.
Separate to the holding company is Alrov Luxury Hotels Management Company, which has its head office in London and is overseen by Chief Operating Officer Massimo Ianni, formerly of Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and the Faena Hotel & Universe in Buenos Aires.
