16 August 2010 13:01:43 GMT

The Rezidor Hotel Group is to open a newbuild Radisson Blu property featuring 216 guest rooms at East Midlands Airport in Q1 2012.

The Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport will benefit from a prime location with excellent visibility – 800 meters away from the main terminal and alongside the M1, the country’s busiest motorway.

Besides 208 rooms and eight suites, all offering Radisson signature services such as free high speed internet access, the property will offer a restaurant, bar/lounge, and a coffee shop. 750 square meters of conference and event space will suitably position the hotel for the MICE-market, and leisure facilities will comprise an extensive fitness centre with a gym and indoor pool.

The hotel design will also incorporate innovative carbon friendly initiatives to significantly reduce the building’s CO2 emissions and in the process, pass on significant cost savings to the operator.

“After the Radisson Blu and Park Inn hotels in Manchester, London Stansted, London Heathrow and Edinburgh, this project is our 5th airport hotel in the UK. We continue to be Europe’s leading airport hotel operator – with now 32 properties in operation and under development and a total of more than 8,000 rooms,” says Kurt Ritter, President & CEO of Rezidor. “At the same time I’m delighted to announce this hotel as our 250th Radisson Blu; our continuously growing EMEA-portfolio now comprises more than 58,000 rooms”, continues Ritter.

Bahram Sadr-Hashemi from Azure Property Group, one of Europe’s leading hotel investment firms and franchisee of the new hotel, adds: “We are excited about working with Rezidor in creating what will be the premier hotel in the area and will offer superior conference facilities. The hotel will have a unique identity and offer its customers a new experience. Radisson Blu has proven to be an exceptionally strong brand in airport locations and we remain confident that it will be no exception here.”

East Midlands Airport is among the 10 largest airports in the UK (nearly 6 million passengers annually). This main generator of business traffic within central UK, it also acts as a hub for several low fare airlines including BMIbaby and Ryanair. Additional demand for the hotel will be generated from the business parks in the surrounding area and the nearby cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.
