Notable projects:
Turnberry, Scotland
Carlisle Bay, Antigua
One Aldwych, London

Shiodome Tower, Tokyo
Phoenix House, London

Where are we?
Cornwall. I’m watching my carbon footprint!

How did you get here?
I would travel by TGV.

Who are you sharing your room with?
I would have friends in adjoining suites.

Is there anything you would like waiting for you in your room on arrival?
I would like my clothes unpacked and pressed.

Who’s at the concierge desk?
Corrado from the Connaught Hotel in London.

And the owner / manager?
Gordon Campbell Gray from One Aldwych in London, because he’s simply the best in the world.

Describe your room...
The design would be very simple with perfect detailing. All rooms would have direct access to the outside with amazing views of the sea, and we would also have our own private pool. There would be lots of white linen, floors painted white, wonderful modern paintings with lots of colour, and superb lighting. No going to bed and finding the standard lamp still on. It would be very comfortable, luxurious and calm.

Who designed it?
The architect Rob Steul, because he would ‘get’ it – the understated luxury and comfort, not over-designed, or design for the sake of design.

What’s the bar / restaurant like?
The restaurant would have a very simple feel with excellent lighting to change the mood from day to night. Seating would not be like a typical restaurant.  There would be a mixture of different tables, chairs and sofas, some lower seating as well as areas for more formal dining. It would be very spacious and the dining chairs would be more like arm chairs.  The bar is dark, which is nice because, in the daytime, we are always outside on the terrace. At night-time, dark is more sexy.

Who are you dining with this evening?
1 & 2. My two best friends, Kiloran and Irène, because I never see enough of them.
3 & 4. My friends Peter and Carlos, because of their sense of humour – it would be hysterical and we would laugh all night.
5. My late father, because we all have questions that we never thought of asking when we were much younger.

Who’s manning the stoves?
Rick Stein, because we’re near his patch and we all love fish.

And what’s on the menu?
My friends and I just couldn’t decide, so we thought we’d leave it all up to him! We’d like whatever is freshest and caught on the day.

Would you like something to drink with that?
I would have red wine, because I like drinking red wine with fish, but everyone else would have an excellent dry white wine.

What CDs would like in your room?
1. ‘The Four Last Songs’ by Strauss.
2. ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ by Procul Harum.
3. Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.
4 & 5. Collections of songs by The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and Elton John.

What’s on the movie channel?
I don’t think I’ll watch any movies – there are too many friends around that I want to be with. If there is any spare time, I should like to read my books.

And a book at bedtime?

I’d have two books – ‘Putin and the Rise of Russia’ by Michael Stuermer and ‘Chaplin’s Girl’ by Miranda Seymour.

What’s in the mini-bar for a night cap?
If my father was around, he would have an Armagnac, so I might join him.

Would you like a newspaper or magazine in the morning?
FT Weekend, because it keeps me going all week.

What toiletries would you like to freshen up with in the morning?
Anything by Yves Saint Laurent.
