ME – Vienna
Austria
Sleeper Magazine July / August 2010
Sol Melia’s ME brand is to take residence in DC Tower 1, a 220m tall building designed by French architect Dominique Perrault, which will be the tallest building in Vienna. The hotel will be the Spanish chain’s first property in Austria.
At a ceremony to lay the first stone of the DC Tower, André Gerondeau, Executive Vice President Hotels at Sol Meliá, declared it “an honour to take part in this project to create a new landmark in the city of Vienna and a magnificent attraction for visitors”.
The DC Tower 1 is one of two towers being designed by Dominique Perrault in partnership with local practice Hoffmann & Janz Architekten, for developer WED (Wiener Entwicklungsgesellschaft fur den Donauraum AG)’s Vienna DC development – the result of WED AG’s plan to create a “city within a city” on the bank of the Danube opposite one of the most beautiful historical city centres in Europe. DC Tower 1 will be one of the first buildings in Austria to be built and equipped according to the EU Commission’s Green Building energy and sustainability standards. The building is expected to attain gold- or platinum-status green building certification from LEED©. The ME Vienna will be the fifth ME by Meliá hotel and the first hotel to be operated by Sol Meliá in Austria. It will feature 255 guestrooms on the first 15 floors of the building with spectacular panoramic views over the River Danube.
