London Design Week 2012

09 February 2012 11:30 GMT

Delight in design diversity at London Design Week 2012 when the capital welcomes the world to spring’s interior event inspired by design. A creative compass, it points the way with the latest inspiration, ideas and style directions.

With over 500 of the world’s most prestigious brands at 91 Design Centre showrooms as well as outside participants in King’s Road, Chelsea, it’s where designers, architects, and media flock to see the new collections. A byword for quality and taste, the event brings together the latest fabrics, wallcoverings, furniture, lighting, accessories, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor living, hardware, tiles, carpets and much more.

Conversations in Design
Headline speakers include US legend David Rockwell, who will share his unique design approach, while Paul Cocksedge, who has made his name with breathtaking installations and public art, and Emma Burns, senior decorator of Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler also take to the stage. A full day masterclass sees style-setter Harriet Patterson and designers David Keech and Samantha Miller explore why the current look is back to the future. And a professional practice seminar hosted by Sleeper Magazine discusses the challenges and opportunities in emerging markets, with a focus on hospitality interiors in Asia.

The Knowledge
This season, escape from it all with beguiling printed perennials, stripes and silks in a pretty romantic palette of violet, blossom and clover.  Global chic, trimmings, appliqué and a nod to the 18th century, as well as clean silhouettes make up a modish melting pot of traditional techniques and cutting-edge.  In tune with the times, there is a passion for provenance, taking a fresh look at how and where great designs are made. This aesthetic embraces a need for authenticity, craftsmanship and attention to detail.

New Arrivals
Taking part for the first time are Lewis & Wood, C & C Milano and Chaplins with new showrooms opening at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. Jacaranda Carpets open its flagship showroom which is also home to Thibaut, Anna French and The Bradley Collection.
New brands include Kathryn Ireland, Gainsborough Silks and Patrick Gallagher Tessuti.

Pop-Ups
The Tatler Restaurant returns to the ground floor in a sophisticated yet laid-back setting with an alfresco menu by Absolute Taste. Watch this space for new pop-ups on the third floor.

Design Blog
An up-to-the-minute blog gives a voice to the show. With breaking news as well as interviews with the people who make great design happen, it offers unprecedented access.

Courtesy Transport
For the first time, Range Rover will be providing a fleet of cars. The shuttle service leaves Sloane Square to Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour via selected showrooms.
