Trunk appoints Toni Hinterstoisser as President – International

Tokyo-based hospitality group Trunk has announced the appointment of Toni Hinterstoisser as President – International, as the brand enters a new phase of international expansion.

Hinterstoisser brings over 30 years of experience in the development, operations and management of luxury and lifestyle hotels across Europe, North America and Asia. Most recently, he served as Vice President – Asia at citizenM Hotels, where he oversaw operations across the Asia-Pacific region.

Throughout his career, he has also held key leadership roles – including General Manager – at properties such as Park Hyatt Tokyo, Andaz Wall Street and Andaz Amsterdam, where he drove revenue growth and delivered exceptional guest experiences.

In this new role, Hinterstoisser will lead strategic planning and business development to drive Trunk’s international expansion. Since its launch in 2017, the company has emerged as a leader in Japan’s boutique hotel category, operating two hotels in Shibuya, Tokyo – Trunk(Hotel) Cat Street and Trunk(Hotel) Yoyogi Park – along with Trunk(House), a private accommodation located in Kagurazaka, Shinjuku.

“I am truly excited to join TRUNK and support the company as it explores global expansion,” states Hinterstoisser. “With its internationally acclaimed hotels in Tokyo and its strong commitment to ‘socializing,’ community connection, and nurturing talent, I firmly believe in the brand’s potential to bring a modern interpretation of Japanese hospitality to the world’s metropolitan cities. I look forward to seeing inspiring Trunkhotels around the world.”

As part of its vision to become a leading international hotel company representing Japanese hospitality, Trunk aims to grow its hotel portfolio to 20 properties worldwide by 2035. Hinterstoisser’s appointment marks a key step in advancing this mid- to long-term growth strategy.

Yoshitaka Nojiri, founder and CEO of Trunk, comments: “Since the opening of Trunk(Hotel) Cat Street in 2017, followed by Trunk(House) and Trunk(Hotel) Yoyogi Park, our brand has continued to grow steadily. Now, TRUNK is entering a new chapter – expanding beyond Japan and taking its first steps into the global market.

“With Toni’s extensive industry experience, global perspective and dedication to creating memorable hospitality experiences, I am confident that he will bring fresh ideas and valuable insights that will lead to new opportunities for Trunk. We are truly excited to share our values and work together to shape the next chapter of the brand’s journey.”
