Nestled in the heart of the Fuegian Archipelago in Chile and scheduled to welcome guests from January 2026, The Cormorant at 55 South is set to open as the southernmost hotel in the world, offering a gateway to Antarctica, one of the least explored regions on the planet.

With 150 guestrooms and two distinct views over forests and the Beagle Channel, the hotel features a design that aims to bring guests closer to the natural beauty of Patagonia, immersing them in the region’s landscapes and allowing them to explore deeper before their journey to Antarctica.

The hotel’s name is a nod to the location of the property at 55° S and an acknowledgement of the area’s history. Paying homage to Lakutaia, the indigenous Yahgan word for cormorant, the aquatic bird is a symbol of the seafarer and intended to bestow good fortune on guests embarking on their greatest adventure.

While the hotel has been designed and developed as part of Silversea’s Antarctica Fly-Cruise offering, it will be open to other travellers not on a Silversea expedition as of Antarctica Season 2026/2027 (October 2026 – March 2027), occupancy allowing.

Guests will be able to choose from a variety of guided excursions and activities tailored to different activity levels. These experiences will provide access to the subpolar landscapes, from the Magellanic subpolar forests such as those in Parque Municipal Ukika to panoramic vistas, and more.
