Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson has undergone a comprehensive redesign, led by Suomi Design Works.
Appointed by Ground LVL, a subsidiary of HEI Hotels and Resorts, the firm has introduced ‘The Hub’ concept, which celebrates Jersey City’s rich history as a transportation centre and a vibrant, diverse city, once a gateway for immigrants arriving through Ellis Island.
The project encompasses a full redesign of the hotel’s public spaces, including the lobby, lounge, restaurant and event areas, as well as the complete renovation of all guestrooms.
Suomi Design Works drew inspiration from trains, trolleys, ships and automobiles, as well as the terminals, tunnels and piers that have shaped Jersey City. Key design elements include flowing lines, nautical details and a focus on motion and dynamic flow, all while celebrating the views of lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.
The design incorporates materials representing the evolution of transportation, from land to sea, and highlights the story of immigration through Ellis Island, reflecting the city’s cultural tapestry.
In addition, the transformation features a redesigned arrival experience highlighted by new artwork including an oversized light sculpture by a Minneapolis-based artist. A handpainted dome ceiling mural by Brooklyn-based artist Oscar Lett celebrates travel and immigration, giving the room a starry sky feeling with edgelighting and fiberoptic special effects.
The public areas on the first and third floors, including the rooftop ballroom, have been redefined with a sleek, streamlined aesthetic and bold focal points, including new fins that block sunlight without sacrificing the property’s Statue of Liberty views.
New amenities have been added to the property, including a billiard and gaming area, a grab-and-go market and a versatile Hyatt MakeSpace for working on the go. Guests can also take advantage of a glass-enclosed meeting space and expanded fitness centre – now twice its original size.
The fully renovated guestrooms feature US-manufactured furnishings that blend modern sophistication with timeless charm. Enhanced technology, guest-friendly power access, upgraded lighting and refreshed bathrooms with large vanities further elevate the stay experience. New suite-style guest rooms have also been added, featuring spacious layouts.
