The Shepherd Mayfair has officially opened in Shepherd Market, introducing an 82-room boutique hotel shaped by the history and social character of one of London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.
Designed by Timothy Shepherd of Shepherd&, the new hotel brings together individually configured rooms and suites, a collection of British art and tailored wellness and lifestyle partnerships. Dining destinations Fayre and The Lounge have also opened, while Teddy’s, the hotel’s late-night cocktail bar, will follow in November 2026.

The Shepherd Mayfair stands on the site of Mayfair’s oldest house, known as The Cottage, which dates to 1618 and was once home to a shepherd tending his flock.
The surrounding fields later hosted the annual May Fair before architect and developer Edward Shepherd transformed the area into the intimate quarter that still bears his name.
The Shepherd Mayfair draws this history into a contemporary interpretation of Mayfair’s historic mansions, pairing the refinement of a private residence with the independent spirit of the area.
The Shepherd Mayfair is a joint venture between Bain Capital and Orka Investments. Spanning 33,600ft2 across six floors, the hotel features references to local figures including Desmond Sautter, Lord Sandwich and Tiddy Doll, alongside Braille and Morse details that recall the area’s wartime intelligence history and nearby Down Street station.

The Shepherd Mayfair has 70 rooms and 12 suites, each configured around the proportions of the original mansion layouts. Categories range from Standard and Superior Rooms to the larger Shepherd Suites and Mayfair Suites, with many rooms incorporating window seats overlooking Shepherd Market and Mayfair.
Adaptable furniture responds to the practical needs of travellers: desks convert into dressing tables, console tables become chessboards and integrated storage keeps rooms calm and uncluttered. Marble bathrooms feature bespoke Floris London amenities, with selected rooms offering bathtubs and separate seating areas.
On the ground floor, Fayre is a 62-cover neighbourhood restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its banquettes, dark timber panelling and berry-toned palette are set beneath wall coverings by British artist Adam Ellis, whose scenes reinterpret the traders, performers and spectacle of the original May Fair.

A three-metre chandelier developed by Shepherd& with Somerset-based Cantelo Lighting brings together more than 500 individually suspended amber glass pendants in a brushed brass structure.
At street level, The Lounge is a 46-cover all-day café and bar with an outdoor terrace and a street-facing hatch for takeaway refreshments. A bespoke Moatwood gin trolley, made from timber sourced from a fallen tree in Kensington Palace Gardens and hand-finished in Hackney, brings tableside martinis and gin serves.
Completing the F&B offer, Teddy’s will be a 72-cover late-night cocktail bar on the lower ground floor, named – like the hotel itself – after Edward Shepherd.
