RH publishes 2019 Outdoor Source Book
RH has published its Outdoor Source Book for 2019, featuring over 400 pages of new collections and collaborations with designers including Mario Ruiz, Piet Boon, Ann Marie Vering, Kelly Hoppen and Jonathan Browning.
In a first-time collaboration with RH, Piet Boon debuts Bonaire, a seating collection comprising strong architectural lines and generous proportions, which employs sustainably harvested teak for a modern aesthetic and robust construction. Mario Ruiz, meanwhile, unveils two lounge and dining collections, both paying homage to mid-century Scandinavian design. Built in solid teak, the Sebastian range (pictured above) features gently sloped and sculpted arms, whilst the Mesa series combines solid teak frames with hand-woven, all-weather wicker. The latter collection is also available in an aluminium frame.
The Greystone collection by designer Ann Marie Vering comprises curved frames in teak or aluminium, whilst – evoking a Louis XVI-style profile – Loire by Los Angeles-based Fred Doughty combines teak with precise lines to create a diagonal lattice. Likewise, Trousdale – a modern reimagining of 19th-century French designs – is rendered in cast aluminium with a slender silhouette accented by stepped corners, sabot feet and traditional X-braces.
Among the season’s other highlights are Calais from architect and designer Marcel Opstal, reimagining the open box weave to create contemporary latticework; Bondi by Nicholas and Harrison Condos, a contemporary chair and barstool collection in all-weather rope; Biarritz, handwoven in durable all-weather wicker in a round weave; and the recently introduced Olema Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Dallas-based designer David Sutherland – which is now available in aluminium.
This year also sees the introduction of two pillow collections: Perennials Framed by interior designer Kelly Hoppen, which brings together bold graphic and appliquéd statements in contrasting tones; and Perennials Fresco by Ann Sutherland, with its design inspired by the weathered painterly medallions of centuries-old Italian frescoes paired with complementary stripes and solids.
New garden accents include the minimalist Claudel lanterns from Jonathan Browning, evoking modern architectural forms with bevelled planes; the Tuuci Ocean Master Classical Roman Valance Umbrella by Dougan Clarke, crafted with marine-grade materials to the standards of a luxury racing yacht; and the sculptural Ojai Fire Table, a floating geometric statement piece rendered in reinforced concrete.
Complementing these are a range of distinctive planters as part of the Castel range by Mitch Brean, who reinterprets rustic 18th-century Italian carved stonework in fluid forms; 19th C. Tuscan, a vessel designed to resemble those gracing the villas of northern Italy; Dumont, recalling classic pots ubiquitous in the south of France; and Lascaux, influenced by the clean lines of mid-20th century International Style.
