Foscarini unveils new Madre table lamp

Foscarini has revealed its new table lamp Madre designed by Andrea Anastasio.

Taking inspiration from ancient fertility vases, the design explores the life-giving properties of light through its functionality, materials and form – the latter resembling the silhouette of hips. The lamp is constructed from white handcrafted blown glass, polycarbonate and coated metal. The top of the lamp integrates a hollow, heat-proof concave made from frosted borosilicate glass, which may be used to hold and preserve fresh flowers.

The hole at the centre of the lamp further adds depth and provides perspective by the illumination even when it is switched off, creating a point at which internal and external light meet.

Anastasio comments: “Madre is a reflection on light, its role, its essence. The form alludes to the shape of mother goddesses, the divinities that protect the fertility of the earth. But also, the vessel as a container of life, because it was first created to contain food.”
