London-based designer Susie Atkinson is set to launch her new furniture collection Laid Bare at Clerkenwell Design Week.

Handmade in Britain, the range features high-quality, natural materials, with a particular focus on British oak chosen for its strength, durability and characteristic grain.

Atkinson has a wealth of experience designing interiors for the likes of Soho House, Lime Wood and Beaverbrook, as well as many private homes around the world.

Laid Bare comes as a response to her difficulty in finding well-made, quality furniture that has a timeless aesthetic and is suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

As the collection’s name suggest, the furniture has been created with a deceptively simple design language to allow the beauty and tactility of the materials and the makers’ expertise to take centre stage.

Championing local craftsmen and enabling their skills to endure, Atkinson hand-picked the makers of each piece herself.

“I wanted this collection to celebrate the lasting beauty of quality pieces, and what it means to have something handmade using the best materials,” she comments. “It is important to me that these designs stand the test of time and are made in the most sustainable way possible. This was an exercise in restraint and consideration as I wanted each piece to work very hard but not to take over a room.”

The resulting range comprises the Bulrush daybed, Craftmaker chair, Slider reclining chair, Sidney side table, Casper coffee table, Dulcie desk in mid oak and Digby desk.
