Moxy Banff has opened its doors, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

Developed in partnership with Drumheller-based Canalta Hotels, the property features interiors by Workshop/APD which pay homage to its history.

The new addition to Banff Avenue is the result of significant renovations to Banff’s first commercial motor hotel, originally constructed in 1964. The hotel – which comprises 109 guestrooms with a retro ski aesthetic – features a bold Mid-Century design, with expansive rundle stone walls and unique precast guest wings that flank the lobby lounge and Bar Moxy. The Moxy team tapped Calgary artist Kirsten Bollen to design a circular Mid-Century mountain landscape that adorns the lobby, and Edmonton artist Tanya Klimp to design large-scale abstract murals featured in both of the hotel’s grand staircases.

Food and beverage takes the form of all-day offerings from a restored 1966 VW Kombi food truck, as well as the likes of Alberta Brisket Poutine and a Reuben sandwich at Bar Moxy. 

The property also features several social spaces, including a year-round heated courtyard with two hot tubs, and a two-in-one lobby and lounge that offers a selection of F&B options. A 24/7 ski, board and bike locker room is also available for self-storage and repairs, while Moxy’s fitness centre is equipped with a range of facilities, including Peloton bikes.  

The hotel is also home to a ‘Voyager Room’, which will offer a unique multimedia experience through an expansive retro vinyl collection and vintage Klipsch Heritage sound system, and a big screen upon which to watch classic films.
