London Design Week unveils conference highlights

London Design Week has unveiled highlights from this year’s Conversations in Design series, a carefully curated programme of talks and panel discussions with insights from influential figures and rising stars.

So far, speakers include: Katharine Pooley, Beata Heuman, Russell Sage, Sarah Spiteri, Sophie Ashby and Charlie Casely-Hayford, Ben Spriggs, Steven Gambrel, Hatta Byng, Staffan Tollgard, Emma Burns, Guy Goodfellow, Max Rollitt, Giles Kime, Lucy Barlow, Johnny Hackett, Peter Gomez, Neil McLennan, Sophie Paterson, Bee Osborn, Laura Hammett and Becky Sunshine.

Kicking things off, three internationally acclaimed designers will explore how they are inspired to create imaginative spaces for the world we live in today. Russell Sage, founder of Russell Sage Studio fresh from his latest project restoring a Victorian lodge in Braemar, Katharine Pooley whose eponymous studio has worked on landmark projects worldwide, and Beata Heuman, a designer renowned for looking at the past and to the future, will discuss how they fuse heritage and modernity.

Meanwhile, New York-based designer Steven Gambrel will detail his unique approach, in which he fuses a classical design vocabulary with the ways his clients live now, as well as his use of craftsmanship and attention to detail. From a beach house in The Hamptons to an exclusive suite in Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel, visitors will discover how Gambrel has conceived his portfolio by layering materials, textures and colours.

Cutting through the ambiguity of 21st century glamour are Lucy Barlow, founder of Barlow & Barlow, Johnny Hackett, founder of Hackett Holland and Peter Gomez, Head of Design at Zoffany, who will explain what defines this most aspirational of interiors style as well as sharing their own creative vision.

Closing proceedings with a focus on Instagram, Bee Osborn, founder of Osborn Interiors, Laura Hammett, co-founder of her eponymous studio and Sophie Paterson, founder of Sophie Paterson Interiors, will discuss the art of visual storytelling and how they put together inspiring, authentic content to cultivate and engage their social media following.

London Design Week will take place at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour from 10–15 March 2019.
