The Sleeper Bar – an annual pop-up bar space on the on the Sleep & Eat exhibition floor – will be designed this year by London and New York-based architecture studio Michaelis Boyd.

This year, the bar takes inspiration from ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’, a short story by Jean Giono which celebrates the power of the natural environment. Crafted primarily from timber, the bar will explore sustainability, studying the afterlife of materials through scale, layering, adaptability and recycling to create a space that caters for all walks of life, adjusting to the needs of each person making the bar a rich, unique experience for each visitor.

Providing a space for delegates to network, grab a drink or take a breather from a schedule of meetings, guests at this year’s show will find issues of the latest Sleeper around the installation.

Alex Michaelis and Tim Boyd, founders of the studio, say: “We are both really looking forward to designing the Sleeper Bar. On our previous visits to Sleep & Eat we have been very impressed by the strength of the designs and the themes and we are excited to be adding our own spin this year. The theme of Social FlexAbility means we will be designing a dynamic and social hub for all this year’s visitors.”
