NLA winners announced
After months of anticipation, the winners of the New London Architecture Awards 2015 were revealed at the NLA annual lunch at the Guildhall on Tuesday 7th July.
Over 130 projects across 16 categories were shortlisted, recognising the very best new and proposed architecture, planning and development in the capital.
Chairman of the New London Architecture Centre, Peter Murray, hosted the ceremony, which attracted 700 guests from across the capital.
In the Hotels and Hospitality category, sponsored by Sleeper, the winner was Ham Yard Hotel, Firmdale Hotels’ eighth property in London, designed by Woods Bagot. Also highly commended was Andrew Mulroy Architects’ Wombats London, a luxury hostel for back-packers and business travellers alike.
The New Londoner of the Year award went to acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid for her infuencial work both in the UK and abroad. With the jury commending her for “her role as a champion of design to both the government and the general public alike.” Hadid’s London projects include The Serpentine Sackler Gallery and The London Aquatics Centre.
Pringle Richards Sharratt’s Black Cultural Archives, from the Conservation and Retrofit category, was awarded overall winner for the transformation of Brixton’s derelict grade II-listed Raleigh Hall into a home for the Black Cultural Archives, which document the lives of people of African descent in the UK.
