Rob McGill, Sustainable Design Leader at HOK London

HOK names new Sustainable Design Leader

HOK International has appointed Rob McGill as the new Sustainable Design Leader for its London office.

Boasting 20 years of experience as an architect with an emphasis on sustainability, McGill has participated in the design of projects in multiple markets including science and technology, healthcare, education and sports, together with the recreation, residential and commercial sectors.

McGill’s expertise includes serving as the facade design and sustainability lead on the UCLH Grafton Way Building, the UK’s first Proton Beam Therapy Hospital, which achieved the world’s highest BREEAM interim certification score for its project type. He was also project architect on the Roslin Institute at the University of Edinburgh, a genetic research facility in Scotland.

“Rob’s experience providing sustainability and wellness strategies on complex projects will be invaluable to HOK and our clients,” says Daniel Hajjar, Managing Principal of HOK’s London office. “It comes at a particularly relevant time as the UK prepares to host COP 26, working to get the world back on track to meet the Paris Agreement.”

As a qualified Passive House Designer, McGill also participated in the UK’s Fluid Diversity Mentoring Programme, which seeks to improve diversity and inclusion in the AEC industry. He earned a Master of Science in Energy and Sustainable Building Design from De Montfort University as well as postgraduate diplomas in Architectural Practice and Architecture from Birmingham City University.

“Sustainability is key to designing places that work for people both now and in the future,” McGill explains. “I’m thrilled to continue creating sustainable design solutions with the team at HOK.”

With offices around the globe, HOK designs buildings and spaces that respond to the needs of people and the environment. Its designers are rooted in technical excellence, driven by imagination and focused on a solitary goal: to deliver solutions that inspire clients and communities.
