Deirdre Dyson presents Melange carpet collection
Launched in Paris at Maison & Objet in the City, Lady Deirdre Dyson’s Melange hand knotted rug collection is now on display at her flagship London gallery in the heart of Chelsea Design Quarter.
Through the collection, rather than restricting herself to a single theme, Dyson has embraced the freedom of creative spontaneity. Though each carpet is a stand-alone design, a shared sense of play and humour ties them together.
Geometric and kaleidoscopic shapes reoccur while the unifying colour palette centres around taupe neutrals, with bolts of burgundy, purple and burnt orange. The luxurious wool and silk threaded carpets are designed as works of art in themselves while complementing and grounding an array of interior schemes.
The full collection comprises seven unique designs, the majority of which integrate fine silk elements, adding a luxurious twist to the exquisite wool creations.
Crystal is defined by a jagged, graphic border reminiscent of refracting crystals, with black silk highlights.

Safari features solid black vertical frequency-like lines interrupted by thinner stripes in two-tone earthy shades of warm muddy brown.
Glassy Greens creates the illusion of floating shelves with its delicate sea green silks, each balancing a rectangular box in the middle in contrasting muted tones.
Pouch, like its name suggests, is a soft tactile carpet with curving corners and a fluid silk outline, in varying taupe neutrals that lend it a three-dimensional quality.

O is conceived as a geometric study woven in 100% pure wool with translucent layers of rectangles, squares and circles overlapping to form intriguing shapes and angles and topped with an accent of deepest framboise.
Finally, Triptych and Moulin both feature a centrifugal force, creating a precise focal point. In the former, a trio of animal-print like triangles in burnt-orange and camel are set against a grey backdrop, while in the latter, transparent triangles overlay a rich burgundy and purple background.

Every Deirdre Dyson carpet is made to measure, tailored to each customer’s specification using Tibetan wool and pure silk, available in the full colour spectrum. Customers can either visit the Deirdre Dyson Gallery in London or Paris to be observe the carpets on display or have a virtual consultation with Dyson or her team. Goodweave-certified, Deirdre Dyson carpets are handwoven by Nepalese craftspeople and can be produced for private residential or commercial spaces.
Reflecting on the collection, Dyson reveals: “I decided to move away from any preset objective and relied entirely on a random design process from ideas that just popped into my head. There are references to past works using overlays and floating shapes, while some carpets appear figurative and others more angular and geometric. What did become evident is that the designs are characteristically mine. As an improvised collection, the results are interesting, and I hope there is something for everyone and to suit a broad range of contemporary styles.”
