Partner of the Czech Pavilion, glassmaking and lighting specialist Lasvit has presented a unique kinetic installation at Expo 2015.

Representing the latest in design regarding crafted glass joined by innovative technological solutions, the kinetic sculpture was designed by Maxim Velčovský, Art Director at Lasvit. The distinctive piece works with optical fibre and aims to reflect the main them of Expo 2015 – Feeding the Plant, Energy for Life.

The sculpture imitates artificial rain falling through open space, demonstrating the fascination with the modern phenomenon of fibre and optics. “Fibres reminiscent of grain fields, wood texture, the mere stem of a plant, water springs or cellular fibre spans the pavilion from ceiling to floor.

“Our lives are composed of information that affects everything we do. Optical fibres brought about a revolution in communication and increased the speed of information flow that determines us,“ explains Velčovský.

Velčovský also created the design lighting and glass panels, titled Frozen, which adorned the main bar area, as well as the original Glass Antlers lighting fixtures, produced specifically for the restaurant in the Czech Pavilion.
