Designed by Shawn Place for Danish furniture brand Mater, Rocker draws inspiration from West Coast indigenous art. When viewed side-on, the rocking chair’s soft silhouette shows the two lines that make up its form – travelling together but never parallel.

Crafted in Europe using sustainable FSC certified oak wood and simple joinery, the collection’s visible leather connections are visible in its construction and detailing. Full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Danish manufacturer, Sørensen, forms the seat of the chair, offering a smooth and strong surface that will age with character.

“I wanted to try designing a better rocking chair,” comments Place. “The Rocker is perfectly balanced, it sits in the same position empty as it does with you in it – it’s very neutral. This allows the chair to rock with such little effort that it’s quite relaxing. Isn’t that what a rocking chair should do?”

Rocker is available in two finishes, white matte lacquered FSC certified oak wood with Harness Whiskey leather and Sirka Grey stained FSC certified oak wood with Harness Mustang leather.
