Northern Lights brings Art Deco glamour to Shanghai Me London
Shanghai Me has opened its latest outpost in London’s Mayfair. First Within led the design vision, appointing Northern Lights to manufacture a suite of bespoke lighting that would amplify the space’s Art Deco spirit and immersive storytelling.
The hotel, which is located on the rooftop of the London Hilton on Park Lane, follows launches in Dubai and Doha. The new venue channels the cultural richness and glamour of 1930s Shanghai.

In the main restaurant, guests are greeted by a dramatic ceiling installation. Two elegant pendant styles balance sculptural form and materiality. Faux alabaster panels with an amber tint are paired with ivory silk fabric to diffuse light, while hand-finished brass detailing adds warmth and sophistication. A complementary pendant style, featuring scalloped edges and pleated fabric shades, maintains visual harmony while introducing variation in silhouette and scale.
In the Bund Lounge Bar, lighting takes on a softer, more intimate tone. Reeded brass table lamps with fabric shades and tassel fringing evoke the elegance of the 1930s, enriching the lounge with ambience and sophistication.

Northern Lights had previously supplied the guest suite lighting for the London Hilton on Park Lane, extending the design narrative from suites to rooftop dining.
Every piece was handcrafted at Northern Lights’ Derbyshire workshop, underscoring the brand’s commitment to artisanal British manufacturing. The result is a lighting scheme that bridges cultural references with contemporary refinement, helping Shanghai Me London write the next chapter of its international story.
