Rex Kralj reimagines Niko Kralj’s Mosquito chair

Slovenian furniture brand Rex Kralj has relaunched Niko Kralj’s Mosquito chair.

Composed in 1953 as Kralj’s own take on Eames’ moulded plywood experiments, the Mosquito chair is celebrated as one of the late Slovenian architect and designer’s most inventive creations, by virtue of the seat’s winged form.

Today, the Mosquito chair reinvents itself as a bar stool, supplemented with a footrest in stainless steel, while the new chair model retains the original backrest in plywood.

The original chair version is updated with new colour variations true to Niko Kralj’s mid-century pallet: vermillion red, leaf green and cobalt blue, all painted on oak.

“The Mosquito chair’s distinctive form resembles the wings of the flying insects”, says Bart Schilder, Rex Kralj Art Director. “The bar stool fulfils the potential of Niko Kralj’s original designs.”
