Zico Lighting creates an elevated ambiance at The BoTree

The BoTree in London reflects a modern ethos of elegance, comfort and sustainable design. Integral to this vision is the lighting – a carefully curated scheme that enhances the hotel’s architectural grandeur and intimate guest experience. At the heart of this transformation is Zico Lighting, whose advanced LED solutions played a pivotal role in bringing the hotel’s sophisticated interiors and exteriors to life.

A Collaboration Rooted in Design Excellence
The BoTree is a collaboration between EPR Architects, Orbit Architects and Concrete Amsterdam, with lighting design by Dpa Lighting Consultants. Their shared goal was to deliver a visual narrative that shifts seamlessly from day to night, luxury to intimacy –requiring lighting that not only performs but elevates.

To achieve this, Zico Lighting supplied its Dim-to-Warm LED filament range, selected for its dynamic versatility, exceptional dimming capabilities and elegant aesthetic – essential qualities in a hotel where mood, atmosphere and experience must align.

“Lighting at The BoTree had to be both refined and adaptive. Zico’s solutions allowed us to layer emotion and tone into every corner of the space – without compromising on energy performance,” notes a lead designer from Dpa Lighting.

A Tactile and Architectural Statement
The hotel’s defining feature, an architectural lattice designed by EPR Architects, spirals dramatically from the main entrance to the upper suites. Zico’s warm white LEDs were used to subtly illuminate its bronze finish, with integrated controls allowing for colour shifts during events or celebrations, adding theatricality without excess.

Inside, the guestrooms designed with Concrete Amsterdam benefit from Zico’s ultra-efficient LED range in custom fittings, including vanity lights, bedside lamps, and discrete wardrobe illumination. These elements, though minimal in appearance, create layered visual warmth that enhances the rooms’ organic textures and muted palettes.

“In guest areas, we needed light that would flatter the design story,” says a designer from Concrete Amsterdam. “Zico’s lamps added the softness and tone we couldn’t find elsewhere.”

Lighting for Hospitality’s New Mood
The BoTree’s public spaces showcase lighting as a storytelling tool. At Italian restaurant Lavo, rich woods, soft velvets and lush green walls are paired with Zico’s dimmable G95 Globes and porcelain-finish light bulbs, creating a sultry, welcoming dining experience.

Meanwhile, The BoTree Bar is a masterclass in dynamic lighting. Here, a ceiling installation responds to natural light and guest flow, transitioning from cool to warm tones as day turns to night. Behind the teal marble bar, curated artwork and illuminated bottles provide focal points that shift in intensity, enhancing both energy and intimacy.

“In venues like LAVO and the bar, light becomes part of the rhythm of the space. Zico’s products allowed us to choreograph that beautifully,” shares a project lighting consultant.

Sustainable Luxury Without Compromise
True to The BoTree’s ethos of mindful luxury, Zico Lighting’s solutions also meet the highest standards for energy efficiency. The Dim-to-Warm range, available in various base caps and finishes, mirrors the natural rhythm of daylight, minimising environmental impact while enriching the guest experience.

On the exterior, a bold approach contrasts London brick with white vertical stone, each treated with different lighting techniques. The brick façade captures ambient daylight and minimalistic night lighting, while the stone is up-lit to create architectural drama that’s both timeless and contemporary.

Shaping the Future of Hospitality Lighting
The BoTree Hotel exemplifies the next chapter in hospitality design, where lighting isn’t an afterthought but a signature of atmosphere, intent, and environmental sensitivity. For Zico Lighting, it’s another milestone in delivering elegant, technically advanced lighting systems tailored to the most demanding design briefs.

“At Zico Lighting, we believe that lighting should never be noticed for the wrong reasons. At The BoTree, it quietly does what great lighting should – support the story, frame the experience, and invite you to stay a little longer.”
