Andaz unveils Conran-designed Red Suite
Andaz London Liverpool Street has collaborated with Red, the AIDS organisation founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver, to create a custom suite personally designed by Sir Terence Conran. The Andaz London Liverpool Red Suite marks the third of its kind, following 2017’s Jonathan Adler-designed suite at Andaz West Hollywood, and a series of Red Cabanas in five Andaz properties worldwide.
Development of the 900ft² space follows a wider renovation of the hotel’s 267 guestrooms, with Conran and Partners completing both that refurbishment and the original fit of the structure 20 years ago when it was then known as the Great Eastern Hotel.
The suite’s layout was adjusted to accommodate a living and dining area, as well as a separate bedroom, while the introduction of new finishes and furnishings sets it apart from the recently redesigned Andaz guestrooms. The suite’s bathroom includes black Dornbracht brassware and basins by Laufen, as well as a double vanity unit in marble, a freestanding Laufen bath and heated floors.
The design also references the Red organisation, with one of its Karuselli chairs upholstered in red leather, a bright magenta sofa, and red glass bedside lamps. A series of portraits by British photographer Rankin reinforces this link, with each telling the story of how Red funds were put to work on the ground. Elsewhere, a special cabinet designed by Conran contains a selection of items for purchase, with proceeds going to Red.
“The Great Eastern Hotel, as this hotel was once known, was my first big hotel project and a little bit of my heart is in the hotel, so it has been a dream for me to be involved with the building once again,” Conran explains. “I am proud to have collaborated with the Andaz brand and Red on a suite design that will give guests a great deal of pleasure while doing a great deal of good in the world. Through carefully curated and commissioned artwork and photography by local artists, we injected the vibrant and creative vibe of East London into the suite and mixed in contemporary hotel design with a domestic feel. The suite is a reflection of how I like to live and the lights on the ceiling are designed to represent halos for the two founders of Red.”
