Annua Signature Hotels has announced the opening of Gran Hotel Margalida on 1 June 2026.
Perched above the secluded cliffside village of Banyalbufar in Mallorca, the 29-room oceanfront sanctuary is the boutique hotel group’s fifth address.
The architectural vision – led by Spanish architect Álvaro Onieva and Estudio Mesonero Romanos in close collaboration with Álvaro Sasiambarrena, co-CEO and creative force behind Annua Signature Hotels – preserves the patina of time while embracing the present. Lime-rendered façades, restrained volumes and Mediterranean planting anchor the building into the hillside.

Arrival unfolds in a double-height lobby rising nearly six metres, with organic walls and embroidered palms crafted by Spanish artisans in stone and jute, accompanied by natural fibre lamps by Planta Santavieira in the Yucatán that hang suspended in mid-air.
Beyond, a panoramic terrace frames the Mediterranean. An infinity pool can be found beside stepped gardens inspired by traditional Mallorcan bancales, creating layered platforms, while cypress, wild olive and strawberry trees line dry stone pathways.

Inside, interiors are conceived by Madrid-based designer Virginia Nieto, unfolding through natural textures and noble materials, balancing retro influences with Mediterranean warmth and a subtle theatricality rooted in place. “My inspiration is born from the place, its history, its light, its popular architecture,” Nieto explains.
Like each Annua property, Gran Hotel Margalida carries a signature colour drawn from its surroundings. Mimicking the hue of Mallorca’s morning sun, wild mimosa and mountain honey, the hotel subtly threads yellow through the interiors.
All 29 suites face the Mediterranean, and are conceived as private coastal apartments with generous proportions, curved mid-century inspired furnishings and hand-finished cabinetry that nod to the confident sensuality of 1960s Riviera design.

Two signature suites rise with soaring ceilings and showers that descend from above like a private hammam. The remaining rooms open fully to the sea, with traditional Mallorcan llengua fabric appearing throughout and an emphasis on bespoke, handcrafted furniture.
The hotel also houses Annua’s first fully integrated wellness concept, with the spa occupying a serene lower level opening onto a secluded sea terrace, featuring a hydrotherapy circuit with a heated pool, vitality showers and eucalyptus steam rooms, as well as a movement studio with Technogym and Reformer Pilates equipment.
