Atelier Ace creates Sister City

The studio behind Ace Hotel – Atelier Ace – has created Sister City, a 200-key “experiment in essentialism” situated on Bowery, Manhattan, set to open in Q3 2018.

Billed as a concept that distils the traditional hotel model into its essential working parts, the project further features a ground floor restaurant and rooftop bar. Taking inspiration from Finnish saunas, Japanese bento boxes, prehistoric rock-cut cliff dwellings and John Cage’s 4’33 – a silent song wherein the listener’s reaction becomes the music – Sister City emphasises efficiency and beauty in tandem.

“We are inspired by the philosophy of less, but better,” says Kelly Sawdon, Chief Brand Officer of Atelier Ace. “The inherent satisfaction of having just enough. Sister City looks through a focused lens to truly anticipate what people need when they’re traveling — comfort, beauty and human connection.”
