In response to the effects of Covid-19, Brownber Hall – an award-winning guesthouse in the Yorkshire Dales – has announced changes to its model as it prepares to reopen.
Owners Peter and Amanda Jaques-Walker felt they could no longer operate their business in the same way, so have pivoted to private rental and revealed plans for a second property on the same site.
Brownber Hall will see the addition of a new guest-friendly kitchen adjoining the dining room, while the four-bedroom Brownber House is currently undergoing refurbishment with interiors curated by former Soho House architect Georgina Rose.
Spaces will be kitted out with products from British manufacturers including Perrin & Rowe and Burlington Bathrooms, as well as fabrics from Vanessa Arbuthnott, lighting by Fritz Fryer and an eclectic mix of handpicked vintage furniture. The master bathroom also boasts a freestanding reconstituted stone bath with views of the fells.
“We think the best way for people to experience the best of Brownber, and fully enjoy the space, is it to let them take over the whole place themselves, but with more special benefits than a typical self-catered package – a kind of private-hire-plus with additional F&B offerings,” explains Jaques-Walker.
A new virtual concierge service is being trialled and offered along with contactless check-in, and fridges can be pre-stocked with local supplies, freshly prepared picnics and homecooked meals.
The House and Hall are located next door to each other and can sleep a total of 23 guests. Both are set to reopen on 1 August 2020.
