A guestroom at Skt Petri Hotel in Copenhagen

Copenhagen’s Skt Petri to become 1 Hotel

Copenhagen’s Skt Petri Hotel is to be rebranded as a 1 Hotel, operated by SH Hotels & Resorts – an affiliate of Starwood Capital Group that also manages Baccarat Hotels and Treehouse Hotels under SH Collection.

Marking Starwood’s first real estate investment in Denmark and 1 Hotels’ debut in Northern Europe, the property will align with the Copenhagen municipal government’s pledge to transform the capital into a carbon neutral urban centre by 2025, delivering the same eco-friendly experience as the wider 1 Hotels brand.

Located by the 17th-century Round Tower and bordering the Latin Quarter, Skt Petri offers 288 guestrooms – including 42 with balconies, a Penthouse Suite and a Presidential Suite with terrace – overlooking the city’s Old Town, while a multi-floor lobby leads to an outdoor courtyard shaded by fig trees and umbrellas.

Starwood Capital Group bought the asset from Norwegian-owned real estate firm Strawberry in January 2021. Alongside the acquisition, the two companies intend to work together to pursue future hotel investments across the Nordics, drawing upon their hospitality experience and track records. As part of the relationship, Strawberry  will continue to operate Skt Petri while Starwood Capital plans for a redevelopment of the hotel.

“We are delighted to announce the acquisition of Skt Petri and look forward to announcing our plans for the hotel in due course,” says Timothy Abram, Vice President at Starwood Capital. “We are also excited to explore future acquisitions together with Petter Stordalen given his unique hospitality track record in the Nordics.”

Petter Stordalen, owner of Strawberry, comments: “This transaction marks the beginning of our relationship  with Starwood Capital. In a post-Covid world, we see several possibilities together as the industry recovers. Maybe it is telling that our first move together will be one of the largest European hotel transactions of late.”
