Delaware Investments to open Autograph Collection safari camp
Delaware Investments has announced plans to open Mereshi Safari Camp Serengeti, Autograph Collection, in November 2026.
The new safari camp is created around the belief that the economic value generated by tourism should benefit the communities and businesses around it.
Located near the Fort Ikoma Gate in the Serengeti, Mereshi Safari Camp is and builds on the approach established at Delaware Investments’ Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, with a focus on local employment, Tanzanian sourcing and community programmes.

The camp is designed by Dunia Design, the team also behind Mapito Safari Camp, and has been planned around the existing natural features of the site, with an emphasis on limiting unnecessary ground disturbance and removal of vegetation. Inspired by the form of the acacia tree, its architecture combines timber, canvas, woven elements and locally sourced materials, with existing natural features informing the layout of the camp.
The camp will comprise 18 elevated tented suites set across 55 acres of open savannah, with all suites sharing the same generous design. Each 95m2 retreat combines 50m2 of interior space with 45m2 of external living space and is oriented eastwards to welcome the first light of the day.
Inside, expansive canvas tents are anchored by dark greenwood furniture, open shelving and natural, locally sourced textiles, with the design intended to celebrate Tanzanian materials and workmanship. Large mesh panels frame views across the plains and acacia trees, while private timber decks provide secluded spaces.

Mereshi Safari Camp is expected to participate in the next phase of a residential hospitality mentorship programme developed with Hope for Girls and Women, a non-profit organisation providing shelter, support and skills development opportunities for vulnerable girls and young women. The scheme is supported by Give a Future Foundation, the non-profit arm of Delaware Investments.
At least five young women will live and train at the camp with their accommodation, meals and day-to-day living costs covered by the camp while they gain practical experience across the operation and work towards careers within Tanzania’s tourism industry.
“Mereshi Safari Camp reflects our belief that tourism should create meaningful benefits for the communities in which it operates,” says Rishen Patel, Founder and Managing Director of Delaware Investments. “Tourism creates jobs, supports businesses and brings investment into communities, however for us that is only the beginning. Every camp we open should allow us to do more – employ more people locally, buy more in Tanzania and put more resources behind programmes that can create lasting opportunities. As the business grows, so too does our ability to invest in projects and create a positive, long-term impact.”

That philosophy extends throughout the development of the camp. Approximately 95% of the materials, furnishings and equipment used at Mereshi Safari Camp – including construction materials, canvas, timber and FF&E – have been sourced and produced in Tanzania, while more than 150 Tanzanians have been involved in its construction.
Once operational, the camp is expected to create around 100 permanent jobs, more than 90% of which will be held by Tanzanians.
Local suppliers, industries, craftspeople and artists have also contributed to the project, ensuring the benefits of the development extend beyond the camp itself and into the wider Tanzanian economy.
