First Look: Arthouse Glasgow
New hotel group Oberland will debut with its first hotel, Arthouse Glasgow, in summer 2026. Opening on 24 June, the property occupies a 19th century townhouse in the heart of Glasgow’s cultural district.
Conceived by design studio A-nrd and becoming the firm’s second UK project, the 76-key hotel takes cues from Glasgow’s urban setting, industrial roots and historical significance, with the original fabric of the building preserved and brought forward.
Wooden panelling, pine floors, an original birdcage elevator and stained-glass windows sit alongside contemporary interventions, with each layer of the building’s history made legible. The exposed aesthetic and neutral tones are offset by a curated mix of vintage and contemporary furniture.
The hotel will offer 76 en-suite guestrooms split across four categories, each with a bespoke king-size wooden bed topped with pocket sprung mattresses and luxurious bedding, with some rooms retaining their original wooden floorboards.
The rooms also feature sleek, thoughtfully engineered storage solutions for belongings as well as desk space, and vintage mid-century armchairs have been reupholstered with Bute Fabrics, the historic Scottish textile mill founded in 1947.

At the centre of the property sits a bar and lounge designed for locals, visitors and hotel guests. Intended an all-day hub, the space is designed to accommodate both daytime meetings and evening gatherings.
Approaching the project with a commitment to local creative culture, the Oberland team also partnered with some of the city’s most vital cultural voices from programming to print – including the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow International and Illyus Brown of Illyus & Barrientos. Thoughtful touches include indie magazines for in-room reading by Ripe Mags, and artworks by local and Scottish artists sourced in collaboration with galleries such as the Patricia Fleming gallery.
“We are incredibly proud to have secured a site in Glasgow, a city that we’ve hoped to be a part of since launching Oberland back in 2022,” comments Oberland co-founder William Riordan. “Glasgow’s energy is unmistakable, from its world-class art and music to its vibrant restaurant culture, and we are excited for Arthouse Glasgow to become part of that story. Our vision is to create a place that welcomes both guests and locals; somewhere people feel drawn to, included in and genuinely inspired by.”
Oberland co-founder Andrew Dean, adds: “With each project, we want to breathe new life into remarkable heritage buildings, creating spaces where storied history and modern comfort sit side-by-side. Arthouse Glasgow is a striking building full of architectural grandeur and design detail, set in a buzzing modern city. Our job as custodians is merely to highlight and tell the story of each property and its city – Arthouse is an ideal start to our collection.”
