HBA reimagines Pebble Beach Resorts

Design plans for the renovations of Pebble Beach Resorts’ The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay and Fairway One have been unveiled. Detailing the reimagined guestrooms of the first two, and the entire design of the latter, Hirsch Bedner Associates’ schemes draw inspiration from the legacy and rich tradition of Pebble Beach, and channel a refreshed aesthetic infused with thoughtful nods to its heritage.

HBA Senior Designer Jacob Royster comments: “As Pebble Beach nears its centennial, HBA’s partnership with the resort focused on a new approach to a signature design aesthetic. The collection of Pebble Beach Resorts properties is unrivalled, and signature design elements celebrate each property’s individuality. Fairway One is a distinct part of this transformation, adding to the property’s legacy and we’re thrilled to have taken part in shaping this next chapter.”

A distinctive addition to The Lodge at Pebble Beach, Fairway One adds 38 guestrooms, including 30 in three two-story buildings, and eight in two four-room golf cottages. The cottages at Fairway One were designed with a uniformly white architectural palette made up of decorative trusses and mouldings, contrasted by an authentic stacked stone fireplace and rich wood millwork. The designers here utilised a soft neutral palette with earth tones and infusions of classic patterns and details, and oversized furnishings are grouped to welcome intimate gatherings or large events.

The Fairway One complex also includes the addition of a meeting facility. Situated along the arrival court, it comprises the 2,500ft² Fairway One Room with a capacity of 225 featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, local art, natural materials and hues, and tactile finishes.

Concurrently, all existing guest accommodations at The Lodge and The Inn at Spanish Bay are being renovated, inside and out, with a new design approach that seeks to instil a traditional look and feel. The renovation encompasses 161 guestrooms, some oceanfront, and corridors, and focuses on fine detailing, thoughtful touches, and neutral hues that cultivate a peaceful vibe.

HBA designers enhanced one of The Lodge room’s key elements, the fireplace, by adding a mantel to make it a focal point, and are also adding a built-in honour bar and a pocket door between the dressing and bathroom spaces to create a more open layout.

The Lodge’s guestroom furniture comprises oversized pieces tailored in neutral hues and incorporating structured and geometric patterns like plaids and stripes. Bathrooms, meanwhile, showcase white marble, walnut vanities, and configurable shower systems. The white painted surfaces are complemented by brown and black walnut finishes, all elevated by the natural light filtering through the increased window openings and adjustable louvered panels.

Lastly, The Inn at Spanish Bay’s guestrooms embody a more contemporary, coastal California design aesthetic and feature enhanced and reconfigured window walls for expansive views of the ocean, Del Monte Forest and The Links at Spanish Bay.

Illuminate, HBA’s lighting consultancy, worked hand-in-hand with HBA designers to create a tailored lighting program that complements the interior design.

HBA Partner Miguel Baeza comments: “The Pebble Beach team has entrusted HBA with creating a new look and feel for the legendary property that will carry the legacy of this historic brand through its next chapter. We have paid a tremendous amount of time and effort to carefully and thoughtfully create a design aesthetic that speaks to the rich traditions of Pebble Beach, while incorporating modern touches that will elevate its timeless design for the next hundred years and beyond. The legacy of Pebble Beach Resorts is simply unparalleled; to reimagine a property of this magnitude and create a destination for the next 100 years is an honour for myself and my team at HBA.

Unveiled in August 2017, subsequent phases of The Lodge and The Inn guestroom renovations are slated for completion in 2019, coinciding with the property’s centennial along with its hosting of the 2019 U.S. Open Championship.
