London and Manchester-based design studio Jolie has announced its collaboration with Chester Zoo on the design concept of The Reserve.
The short-break experience comprises 51 safari-style lodges, a communal Welcome Lodge and lakeside terrace – overlooked by a private savannah-inspired landscape with giraffes and other species just feet away.
Jolie’s interiors celebrate the beauty of the wild open African savannahs, incorporating organic textures, earthy palettes and sustainably-sourced materials that enhance the connection between guests and their surroundings.

Slated to open in summer 2026, The Reserve is nestled within the heart of one of the UK’s leading conservation zoos, with each stay directly funding Chester Zoo’s conservation projects around the world.
With understanding of how spaces influence emotions, Jolie has designed The Reserve with the goal to evoke a sense of wonder, tranquillity and discovery. Every detail has been chosen to enhance the guest experience, encouraging an intuitive connection with nature. The Reserve invites guests to fully engage their senses, from the warmth of timber underfoot to the gentle ambient lighting that defines each space.

As well as the lodges, Jolie has designed communal spaces for guests, including an open-plan Welcome Lodge which includes the Tsavo lounge and Amboseli restaurant. Natural wood and marble materials have been used throughout as well as biophilic design elements. A terrace space beside the lake encourages guests to connect with the wilderness and take in the lakeside views.
Jolie’s approach to The Reserve draws inspiration from the raw beauty of nature while ensuring a luxurious and inviting experience. With a design ethos that favours simplicity, elevated furnishings paired with ethically-sourced timber create a harmonious environment, while large windows and open-air terraces blur the boundaries between inside and outside.
At The Reserve, guests can embrace the freedom of a flexible stay, enjoying alfresco breakfasts on their private terraces, exploring Chester Zoo beyond the usual visitor hours, or taking part in wildlife experiences rooted in conservation.
