Juana Bautista opens doors in Tlaquepaque
Boutique Hotel Juana Bautista has announced its opening in the Pueblo Mágico of Tlaquepaque, minutes away from the Mexican city of Guadalajara.
The building, originally a 16thcentury colonial mansion, was restored by Antonio Orozco and Mónice Escoto, partners at Grupo Mitote who retained existing features, such as the stone staircases, original doors and wooden ceilings.
There are seven guest suites, each designed and named after titles of traditional Mexican songs: Amor Eterno, Las Mañanitas, Cielito Lindo, El Rey, Nube Viajera, Hermoso Cariño and Motivos. Orozco and Escoto have preserved the mansion’s original geometric-mosaic floors, and added further traditional touches through handcrafted textiles, complemented with bold colours and statement pieces in rich materials like leather and marble. Showcasing the skill and talent of local artisans, bespoke details, such as blown-glass lamps, wood-carved artefacts and furniture are found in every corner.
The property also boasts a terrace with a swimming pool, welcoming guests to pass the days whilst enjoying a selection of beverages. In the common areas of the hotel, a 200-year-old tree offers shade, whilst the running water from a fountain imported from Paris in 1850 provides a relaxing ambience.
