Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid slated for Summer 2020 opening

Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is set to reopen in Summer 2020 following a complete restoration.

The refurbishment focused on restoring the hotel’s interior architectural features, while also incorporating several artistic pieces from the property’s historic collection including crystal chandeliers, antique paintings and sculptures.

The original property, Hotel Ritz – which first opened in 1910 – was designed and built under the supervision of hotelier César Ritz. Throughout the restoration process, Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz incorporated elements drawn from the historic design to ensure the building retained its unique character.

Interiors – overseen by French designers Gilles and Boissier –  seek to attract local and international guests alike by encapsulating a mix of classic and contemporary residential styles throughout. The 153 guest-rooms feature 53 suites including several one-of-a-kind specialty suites: a spacious Royal Suite, the Presidential Suite, and two options located in the top floor turrets featuring private balconies with views over the Prado Museum and Lealtad Square.

The F&B offering – led by chef Quique Dacosta – includes a signature Quique Dacosta restaurant overlooking the famous hotel garden, as well as all-day dining and traditional afternoon tea at The Palm Court, the Ritz Garden, the Ritz Bar and the Champagne Bar.

The project’s new leisure and wellness facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool, experience showers, a steam room, a gym and a dedicated treatment room providing a range of local and signature treatments.

“We are proud and excited to be opening Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid this summer, our second hotel in Spain,” says James Riley, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. “We are confident that the local community will be even more proud of this historic landmark, and we look forward to providing our guests with memorable experiences, in majestic surroundings.”
