Marriott International has unveiled its selection of highly anticipated openings in 2021 across Asia Pacific. From the rugged wilderness of Hobart to the best cities of Japan and the picture-perfect archipelago of the Maldives, here are some of the most anticipated openings and brand debuts.
Australia
Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands
Located in the newly revamped The District Docklands, the 200-key Marriott Hotel Docklands Harbour Town comprises two interconnected towers that intersect with a level of vertical greenery that is designed to provide some privacy. Led by Melbourne-based Urban Develop and Capital Alliance Investment Group, the project will boast four F&B outlets, as well as a 28-metre infinity-edge swimming pool serviced by an adjoining bar with panoramic views of the city’s skyline.

The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart
Australia is welcoming the first Luxury Collection Hotel to the heart of the Tasmanian capital, Hobart. The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart offers 152 unique rooms and suites across a stunning architectural experience that blends the original 1840s heritage building, an Art Deco building and a modern Pavilion Building overlooking the spectacular views of Hobart waterfront. Guests will also be able to enjoy epicurean adventure at the hotel with its signature Italian restaurant created by Tasmanian Chef Massimo Mele and a reimagined old-world cocktail bar.
W Melbourne
Melbourne’s first luxury lifestyle hotel with its rebellious Flinders Lane address will open February 4. W Melbourne takes its design cues from the streets of Australia’s cultural capital. Extending the laneway culture inside, 294 bold rooms and suites peel back the layers and revel in the city’s history. W Melbourne will be a playground of three dining destinations, a bar and signature WET pool with skyline views.
China
Moxy Shanghai
Moxy Shanghai Hongqiao marks the brand debut in China and is ready to welcome the young and young-at-heart. The new 168-room playful Moxy hotel is designed for those who don’t want to be confined to a conventional hotel stay. Guests are given permission to break the rules and play on in a fun, vibrant setting featuring bustling social spaces, stylish and affordable guest rooms, and an energetic scene from day to night.
Sheraton Mianyang
Located in Xianhai Shuili Scenic Area, Mianyang in northern part of Sichuan, Sheraton Mianyang is the first hotel exemplifies the brand’s new vision. The new hotel features 353 bright and well-lit guestrooms as well as the brand’s signature communal lobby, which aims to connect, to work and dine. Guests should also not miss the part bar, part coffee bar, the Coffee Bar Bar is a central pillar of the new Sheraton vision, transitioning guests seamlessly from day to night with food & beverage options that are locally sourced, easy to consume while working and customisable to accommodate all tastes and time schedules.
Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Jiuzhaigou
Located at the entrance of the Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site, World Biosphere Reserve and protected national park in southwestern China, this Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Jiuzhaigou brings the traditions, culture, community and soul of this Chinese valley to life. With an elevation of 2,300 metres above sea level, the hotel will feature thoughtfully designed villas with panoramic views over the lush forests, pristine lakes and perennial snow-capped mountain peaks.
The St. Regis Qingdao
Situated at Qingdao’s best address, The St. Regis Qingdao is housed within the city’s highest building within a commercial complex with shopping and entertainment venues. Offering breathtaking views of the Yellow Sea through its 233 exquisite guest rooms and suites, the new hotel will feature three restaurants and the St. Regis Bar, serving locally inspired cocktails and the signature Bloody Mary.
W Xiamen
W Xiamen is located in the bustling east business district, directly adjacent to the city’s newest shopping landmark – OneMall. Inspired by Xiamen’s nautical history and diverse culture, the hotel’s design philosophy ‘lush jungle meets silver sea’ will be translated into its 293 contemporary guest rooms and suites.
Japan
W Osaka
Marking the brand’s debut in Japan, W Osaka sits in the heart of Osaka amidst the energetic Midōsuji boulevard, with access to the fashion, dining and entertainment districts of Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori. The hotel’s 337 guestrooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows are inspired by Osaka's neon-lit nighttime streetscapes. The lifestyle hotel will be the destination for social and electrifying dining experiences where one can enjoy stand-up comedy, live DJ sessions and an all-day dining patisserie helmed by Michelin-star chef.
Fairfield Michi-no-Eki Project
Aimed at revitalizing local sightseeing spots, the Fairfield by Marriott “Michi-no-eki” project galvanized a major expansion of the Fairfield brand in Japan, with six new hotels now open alongside Japan’s national highway rest areas. The hotels will be convenient bases from which travelers can explore Japan’s local beauty and will provide extensive access to previously under-explored areas of the country.
Korea
Josun Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Seoul Gangnam
Located in Gangnam district, the central of Seoul, Josun Palace features 254 guest rooms, over 9,200 sq ft of combined event space, an all-day dining, two signature restaurants, lounge and bar. The Josun Wellness Club on 26th floor will be an exuberant space fully equipped with a fitness centre, swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna for working out and relaxing while overlooking Gangnam.
JW Marriott Jeju
JW Marriott brand is slated to bring its warm luxury experience to Jeju Island in South Korea. Inspired by the island’s volcanic surrounding and picturesque coastline, the 91 rooms and suites resort will be a haven for guests with multi-concept dining, outdoor BBQ and a sunset bar. Relish every moment at JW Marriott Jeju with its own outdoor hot spring as well as three resort pool areas including an indoor pool with kid’s pool, an outdoor heated pool with whirlpools, and an outdoor adults-only pool.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands
