Mazzarini & Co., formerly known as BHDM Design, has announced the launch of its new identity, ushering in a new chapter for the New York-based design studio. The firm’s rebrand was followed by the completion of its first NYC hotel, M Social Hotel New York Downtown.
Drawing inspiration from the city’s Financial District and its landmarks, the hotel’s interiors feature bold, fluid architectural features throughout, with its signature motif – layered curves and ribbed patterns – evoking the constant motion of the city.
This theme is particularly present in the centrepiece of the property, the third-floor lobby, providing direct views of the Oculus. Underfoot, printed ceramic tiles replicate the texture of nearby Brick Street, layered with a custom-patterned rug inspired by the patterns of New York City Street, sidewalk and manhole textures.

Walls are clad in textured vinyl and backlit polycarbonate, a material chosen to emulate the sparkle of downtown’s many skyscrapers. Overhead, an exposed ceiling references the unseen layers of city infrastructure, and is masked by an undulating curving wave, a nod to the unseen Collect Pond and Minetta Stream that runs underground through the Financial District.
A copper-toned palette is carried throughout the space. A custom check-in desk featuring an ombre copper finish is set on bull-shaped feet, symbolising a surging market. Furniture groupings are casual and work-lounge oriented, arranged to allow for maximum views of the Oculus from each vantage point. A custom cloud wall graphic from artist Michael Hildbrant is paired with diorama-style artwork to underscore the space’s theme of head-in-the-cloud dreamers, and these details work cohesively to maintain an approachable, communal atmosphere.

In the guestrooms, murals of the Charging Bull pay tribute to the district’s resilience, while a warm palette of red and gold, complemented by dark woods and metallic finishes, creates a lively and inviting atmosphere. Sustainability is also woven into the design, with LED lighting and eco-friendly materials.
As the first project since the firm’s rebrand, the hotel embodies Mazzarini & Co.’s ethos as it embarks on this new chapter. Envisioned by Principal and Creative Director Dan Mazzarini, who draws on his formative years as a director at Ralph Lauren, this updated identity bridges the firm’s origin with its future trajectory, resulting in a collective of designers, architects and artists that are led by the firm’s guiding question: “Why Wouldn’t We?”

Since its inception in 2012 as BHDM Design, the firm has worked across four continents, collaborating with a global roster of clients ranging from Ralph Lauren and Waldorf Astoria to Google and One Medical. Beyond brand collaborations, Mazzarini & Co. has revitalised historic landmarks, including Grand Central Terminal and the Harvard Club of New York, while pioneering fresh concepts for developers, venture capital firms and high-net-worth individuals seeking bespoke environments.
Moving forward, the firm will continue to expand its reach across hospitality, workplace and residential design while embracing new opportunities for innovation and collaboration. Building on its legacy, the design studio remains committed to balancing strategy and creativity with heritage and beauty in each project.
“Reintroducing our studio as Mazzarini & Co. marks more than a new name—it reflects our ongoing evolution as a creative collective at the intersection of narrative and space,” says Mazzarini. “Our latest chapter underscores our vision by allowing us to push further: exploring fresh ideas, methods of collaboration, and experiences that surprise and delight at every scale.”
