Mondrian Shoreditch set to replace The Curtain in 2021

Hospitality groups Accor and sbe have announced plans to turn The Curtain into Mondrian’s European flagship hotel, in collaboration with current owner Reuben Brothers.

Situated in the heart of Shoreditch, the 120-key property will be the sixth hotel in Mondrian’s global portfolio. The building will undergo an update and restyling ahead of completion in 2021.

“I am very proud to be working with Reuben Brothers and Accor to take over such a prestigious property and to bring Mondrian back to London,” comments Chadi Farhat, Chief Operating Officer at sbe. “The city has been and will continue to be such a thriving market for our lifestyle hospitality offerings, and I am very excited to re-establish Mondrian as one of London’s most innovative and glamorous destinations for hospitality, culinary and mixology experiences for locals and travellers alike.”

Mondrian Shoreditch will also introduce Michelin star chef Dani García’s first culinary experience in the UK.

“We look forward to establishing the property as the heart of the Shoreditch food scene in our first ever UK restaurant,” reveals García. “I have always been drawn by the magic and energy of London and this opportunity alongside sbe, Accor and Reuben Brothers is a dream come true for us. We are humbled and honoured and look very much forward to welcoming guests into our restaurant at the soon-to-become iconic Mondrian Shoreditch London.”

In addition to García’s restaurant, the new hotel will feature sbe’s signature food and beverage offerings and revive the rooftop lounge, Rumpus Room. The Curtain Members’ Club will continue to operate alongside the re-branded hotel.

Mondrian’s return to London reflects the brand’s continued international expansion in partnership with Accor, which will include soon-to-be announced Mondrian properties in Australia, the Dominican Republic, Germany, the Maldives, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. By 2022, sbe plans to open 50 new hotels internationally, of which 10 will fall under the Mondrian brand.
