New island at Per Aquum Niyama

Niyama, the Per Aquum Resort in the South Western Atoll of Dhaalu in the Maldives has announced the opening of its second island, Play. The additional 48 suites and pavilions with bring the total number of keys to 134.

Play offers ground-breaking concepts including Nest, the treetop dining experience and Blu, the relaxed beachfront restaurant. Play is connected to Niyama’s original island, “Chill”, by a bridge with the two just a few metres apart.

Nicholas Downing, Vice President of Per Aquum, commented: “The opening of Play is a significant milestone for Niyama and proves that we are continuing to redefine the Maldives’ experience. We were the first resort to open an underwater music club and we’re still breaking the mould with our new, groundbreaking concepts. Resorts in the Maldives traditionally target one specific segment.

“With Niyama’s twin islands, Chill and Play, Per Aquum is yet again daring to be different by offering a revolutionary new concept for the Maldives, allowing guests to choose which type of experience they wish to have each day. The traditional honeymoon and couples market has evolved and our guests are now seeking bolder and more adventurous experiences with their families whilst not wanting to compromise on luxury or exceptional levels of service.”

Restaurant Blu offers relaxed, family-style beachfront dining, while the large infinity pool features a dedicated children’s swimming area. Opening soon on Play, Nest is a one-of-a-kind dining concept for the Maldives, featuring naturally modern design nestled amongst the Banyan trees in the heart of the jungle. The innovative multi-level treehouse design provides spectacular locations from private pods suspended six metres above the ground, to culinary theatrics in domed pavilions amongst the trees, all linked by wooden walkways.

New accommodation options at Niyama include the one-bedroom Beach Pool Suites, which offer indoor/outdoor living and extended space. The Beach Pool Suites provide total privacy, with the convenience of direct beach access and ocean views from the bed, as well as a family-sized plunge pool. The new two-bedroom Family each Pavilion faces the lagoon, offering luxury living with a high level of privacy and an in-villa spa.

The new facilities on Play complement the venues on Chill, including Lime Spa with six treatment rooms facing the lagoon and two nestled in lush jungle. Dining options on Chill include Tibal, Edge and Subsix. The resort is just a 45-minute seaplane journey from Male.
