Renaissance Hotels debuts in Bordeaux

Marriott International’s Renaissance Hotels has made its debut in Bordeaux with the opening of a 149-key property featuring a rooftop terrace and pool that provides 360-degree views across the city’s harbour.

Following its transformation, the tower-structure – once a 19th century oil factory – embodies the sense of regeneration that its neighbourhood is famed for, tapping into the location’s industrial heritage while standing tall as a modern landmark in The Wet Docks Quarter, home to bars, restaurants and museums.

The hotel’s theatrical interior design was conceptualised by curator and designer Michael Malapert, who has cleverly juxtaposed the building’s historic past with the introduction of chic modern furnishings to blend old and new. Malapert utilised the natural light that pours in from the oversized windows, while the décor also includes plush velvet headboards, natural wood finishings and warm brass lighting. Each guestroom features specially commissioned works of art and offers views across either the harbour, city or Garonne River.

Set on the ninth floor, the rooftop boasts a pool, bar and restaurant with panoramic views of the city and its famous Chaban Delmas bridge. Guests can cool off from the heat with a swim in the 10-metre pool or tuck into classic Italian fare at all-day restaurant and bar Gina, which serves a mozzarella menu, antipasti platters, homemade pizzas and ice-cream. Celebrating the city’s culture through its cocktail menu meanwhile, the bar invites guests to try the hotel’s unique spin on a ‘Summer Vibes’ Cosmopolitan, combining Fair Vodka, Lillet Rouge, Expresso Alchimiste and Jus de Raisin. Rounding out the culinary offer, Gina Caffè on the property’s ground floor features a large outdoor terrace along the edge of a garden oasis.
