Ruby Hotel has slated the launch of its first Stuttgart property for Spring 2023, with the project marking the brand’s first foray into co-working spaces. Set in the central Gerber shopping mall, the 150-key hotel will feature the 1,700m² Ruby Works – a 190-workstation facility set across the mall’s top level.

The hotel will occupy 8,000m² of existing retail space, with the conversion overseen by BWK Architekten, and work scheduled to begin in Autumn 2021. Guestrooms ranging from 14-15m² Nest rooms to 21-23m² Loft options will be joined by a 24-hour bar and library. As with previous projects, the brand’s sleep-scientist approved room designs incorporate full soundproofing, blackout curtains and extra-long and wide custom mattresses.

“As a conversion of former retail space right in the heart of the city, the Gerber project represents a ground-breaking milestone for us,” comments Michael Struck, CEO and founder of Ruby Group. “We have created completely new room types for this project, adapted to the challenging floor layouts. The excellent location, high ceilings and unusual style of the building are a perfect match for our lean luxury philosophy and the project therefore represents an attractive new addition to the Stuttgart hotel market.”

The hotel will be the group’s 10th German location, and forms part of a plan to reveal 17 new properties by 2023.

“We are delighted that the Gerber shopping mall is increasingly turning into a mixed-use development and indeed is being perceived as such,” adds Klaus Betz, Head of Real Estate at Württembergische Lebensversicherung, the mall’s owner. “This is where an attractive building offering local amenities such as retail units and restaurants focusing on quality and sustainability, also accommodates office space and a hotel development. The fact that we were able to acquire Ruby is an important milestone in Gerber’s strategic development and a sensible addition to our overall concept. This project means that we are combining more than six types of use in one development which complies with The City of Short Distances concept.”
