Scandic to open climate-neutral hotel in 2024

Scandic Hotels has signed a long-term lease agreement with Skanska for a new hotel in Sundsvall, Sweden.

Set to arrive in the city’s harbour area in 2024, the 210-room development will be built entirely from wood, with its frame, façade and interior meeting the requirements for high-ranking environmental certification, LEED Gold. On the roof meanwhile, energy-efficient materials and solar panels will help the building maintain a high energy standard and ensure the property remains 100% climate-neutral during its lifetime.

Facilities on offer at Scandic Sundsvall Central will include a restaurant and bar area on the ground floor, together with a spa, gym and meeting rooms on the first level – all of which overlook the Bothnian Sea.

“Our new Sundsvall property will be a modern and attractive meeting place, located in an area where we can see a growing demand for hotels,” says Peter Jangbratt, Head of Scandic Sweden. “We’ve been working with Skanska for the past two years and naturally, it feels positive to strengthen our hotel offering in the city.”

Joakim Åkesson, Regional Manager at Skanska Sweden, adds: “It is gratifying to have Scandic as a tenant – a company that shares our values in terms of sustainability and with which we have worked on other projects.”

Scandic currently operates two hotels in Sundsvall, which together offer a total of 312 rooms.
