Valor Hospitality Partners, in partnership with US-based owners Links Collection, has announced the opening of Seaton House.
Located just yards from the 18th green at the Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland, the building comprises two mid to late 19th-century properties, which were combined and converted to The Scores Hotel in the 1930s.
Following a sensitive restoration that preserves the building’s more than 150-year history, Seaton House emerges as a luxury escape grounded in Scottish heritage, comprising 42 guestrooms, including six suites and three junior suites, as well as a range of dining options curated by Chef Patron Roy Brett.
A focus on local flora and fauna and the surrounding natural beauty of the West sands and The North Sea informs the hotel’s design, with colour palettes throughout reflecting Scottish landscapes and St. Andrews’ golf heritage. Curated artwork offers a deeper connection to place, with commissioned pieces from UK artists displayed in every room, lending each a unique character.
Scottish heritage is reflected in tailored furnishings by local craftspeople, emphasised further by thistle embroidered scatter cushions, curtains with patterns of stags in a forest, and argyles, plaids and tweeds. Moulding, timber panelling and bespoke rugs and carpets also feature.
A key asset of the hotel is the use of the family tartans, including that of the Rea family in honour of original Seaton House architect, George Rae. In addition, the family tartans of workers involved in the hotel’s renovation were also integrated into the design, with bespoke bed throws used in each guestroom.
The hotel’s F&B offering furthers the established sense of comfortable luxury. In Bow Butts Bar, the richness of the scheme continues through earthy greens and warm wood tones, contributing to an atmospheric and welcoming space. Ondine Oyster Bar meanwhile plays on the restaurant’s ethos of sea and land to plate, introducing subtle ties to nautical styles with elegant simplicity.
Finally, the concept behind the Board Room grew from the idea of making yourself home in someone’s kitchen. Evoking a residential setting, the restaurant features a copper thistle chandelier, a wall of antique mirrors and an open kitchen.
The opening of Seaton House coincides with another Valor Hospitality opening, Dunluce Lodge in Northern Ireland, which overlooks the fourth fairway at Royal Portrush Golf Club and boasts 35 luxury suites, an intimate spa and an onsite putting green. The two properties join Valor Hospitality’s portfolio of nearly 100 hospitality projects across the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
