The Zetter Group has announced plans to expand beyond the UK for the first time with the opening of The Zetter 717 Amsterdam in January 2027.

Occupying a historic canal house on Prinsengracht in Amsterdam’s UNESCO-listed Canal District, the boutique 24-key property will bring The Zetter’s distinctive, characterful approach to one of the city’s most recognisable neighbourhoods.

The Zetter Amsterdam

Originally built in 1810 in the Empire style, with a rear structure dating back to the 17th-century Dutch Golden Age, 717 reflects Amsterdam’s architectural history while sitting at the heart of the city’s canal district. The property is redesigned by Zetter favourite, James Thurstan Waterworth, whose studio Thurstan also led the design of The Zetter Bloomsbury.

Waterworth’s approach brings together the historic fabric of the building with The Zetter’s signature sense of lived-in luxury. Aged brass, reclaimed timber, antique mirrors and rich textiles are layered throughout the property, creating interiors that feel collected, bespoke and intentional.

Against 24 boutique guestrooms, two public spaces will anchor the hotel. The Garden Room will offer a botanical, conservatory-style setting for breakfast, overlooking the hotel’s private garden. Alongside it, The Library will offer a more intimate setting for drinks and small bites, with book-lined walls, deep rust and burnt-terracotta tones, aged brass detailing and reclaimed oak.

“The move into Amsterdam is an incredibly exciting moment and a natural next step for the collection,” says Kevin Rockey, Managing Director of The Zetter Group. “717 is a very special property, beloved by locals, with a rich history that feels perfectly aligned with what we have always sought to create at The Zetter. Our ambition is to respect the character of the building and the neighbourhood while bringing our own approach to warm, intuitive hospitality. We’re looking forward to introducing The Zetter to a new city and, just as importantly, becoming part of the local community here in Amsterdam.”
